Notes:
'Since I was a child I have heard stories in the Windward Maroon community of Bakra. The stories focused on the Second Maroon War, which pitted my community against the Lieutenant Governor and his British troops. Over time, I realised that my family owned land linked to the Lindsays of Haigh Hall and Balcarres, that the places I knew well and passed daily were, again, tied in with the Alexander's time in Jamaica. As a teenager I began to ask questions and two of my elders, Great Auntie Winnie and Great Uncle Keith shared what they knew of our family's story..', Ripton Lindsay 2019.
