I have been interested in family history for years and have a growing collection ofring binders, family trees, index cards and assorted memorabilia which despite myimpeccable filing system means little to anyone else. However, a couple of monthsago we had a speaker at our Wallasey Group of The Family History Society ofCheshire whose talk inspired me to make the effort to publish my work and make it aninteresting and informative read for other members of the family and indeed anyoneelse for that matter.Bob Wright’s personal experience of publishing his own family history was just thepush I needed to get everything down in black and white. Of course as he said, thereare a number of excuses for putting off the dreaded task. One being, “I haven’tfinished my research yet.”. I have to admit that I did make a couple more visits toLiverpool Record Office, something I should have done before anyway, to confirm afew details and in the process found some invaluable new information. Anyway, thenight of the talk I came home determined to start writing and gave myself a deadlineof April 2002, my birthday.Assembling pictures, maps etc. and writing the story was the easy bit; learning to putit onto the computer was another thing altogether. However, with Roger’s usualpatience and tolerance he guided me through the intricacies of Microsoft Works toinsert the pictures into the text. The resulting work, finished ahead of time, can nowbe enjoyed, if not endured, by the rest of the family. For those of you not familiar with Family History jargon there is a glossary at theback.Happy reading!
